U of T Law student wins Philip M. Epstein Award for Top Oralist at Walsh Family Law Moot

Held in Toronto on March 9, the Walsh Family Law Moot is a competitive moot for 2nd and 3rd year law students from across Ontario.

U of T Law student Julia Fine (2L), received the Philip M. Epstein Award for Top Oralist.

Additional participants from U ofT Law included Aviva Ripstein (3L), Laura Hunter (3L) and Constantine Kanargelidis (3L)

Congratulations to this years Walsh Family Law Negotiation Competition participants!

The Walsh Family Negotiation Competition is a competition for 2nd and 3rd year law students from across Ontario. Working in teams of two and using facts for each partner in a family law dispute, U of T Law students Emma Baliat (2L), Christos Kakaletris (3L), Ashley Jeon (2L), and Alice Min (2L) negotiated with opposing teams in three successive rounds of increasing complexity.

A strong commitment to assisting his fellow students, a belief in inclusion and a commitment to human rights has earned third-year Faculty of Law student Foti Vito (JD 2024) the University of Toronto's Ludwik & Estelle Jus Memorial Human Rights Prize (Emerging Leader).

In Memoriam: The Honourable R. Roy McMurtry (Hon. LLD 1998)

The Faculty of Law is saddened to hear of the passing of the Hon. R. Roy McMurtry (Hon. LLD 1998), former provincial attorney general and chief justice of Ontario. He was 91. 

He was nominated by the Faculty and received a Doctor of Laws honoris causa from U of T in 1998. He also received an Honorary Doctor of Sacred Letters from Trinity College in the University of Toronto in 2007.
