The Faculty of Law’s International Business Law Summer Internship, supported by the Dr. Scott Guan China Law Practice Award, provides one student with an opportunity to intern in Shanghai, China for six weeks from May to July, plus 10 days of extended local accommodation allowing time for jet lag adjustment and cultural expeditions. The Award, with a total value of $7,000, covers the student’s travel, accommodation, living expenses, and an internship allowance.

The recipient of this award will have the opportunity to work for Dr. Scott Guan, a Faculty of Law alumnus and partner at Zhong Lun Law Firm, who practises in the areas of Cross-border Investments and Mergers & Acquisitions. The student’s work at the firm will primarily include:

  • Conducting research on legal and commercial topics;
  • Drafting research memoranda and professional legal advice;
  • Drafting commercial contracts and transaction documents; and
  • Reviewing and editing English legal and professional documents.

The opportunity is open to 1L and 2L JD students. Chinese language skills are not necessary. Students who can only speak English will be at no disadvantage. The Award aims to promote professional and cultural exchanges between Canada and China. Students with no or limited China experience are encouraged to apply for the Award.
