Metropolitan Action Committee on Violence Against Women & Children (METRAC)

Cynthia YangCynthia was responsible for coordinating the Sexual Assault Court Watch Project at METRAC this summer.  This involved conducting research, recruiting and training volunteers, coordinating trial viewings and writing a final report summarizing her findings.  In addition, Cynthia spent much of her time in Toronto's downtown courts, observing criminal trials and meeting with Crown attorneys.

Cynthia writes: "As Coordinator for METRAC's Sexual Assault Court Watch Project, I was given a level of responsibility I had never experienced before.  While the task seemed daunting at first, I was able to rise to the challenge, and I am happy with the knowledge that my efforts made a valuable contribution to the organization.  More importantly, I found great satisfaction in working together with a number of volunteers as a team; striving towards a common goal, overcoming challenges, and achieving the end objective.  That experience, along with the friendships I forged, were without a doubt the most valuable gains from my Fellowship."
