More than 200 graduates of the Faculty of Law were lucky enough to have an honorary degree recipient and commencement address like no other at their June 7 convocation ceremony.

The Faculty of Law is saddened to announce the passing of alumnus Kris Astaphan, JD 1984, on June 6, 2013, aged 59. A much-loved and accomplished law grad, he was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1986, and from 1986-93 worked at Aird & Berlis in taxation law.

After three years of bleary nights, lectures and seminars, study groups and grueling exams, more than 200 students from the Class of 2013 will be celebrating with their family and friends at convocation ceremonies and a Faculty of Law lunch on June 7.

Blue skies, baseball caps and a picture-perfect setting by the Bennett Gates greeted the more than 170 guests who attended the June 4 groundbreaking of the Jackman Law Building.  And with the official turning of the sod, the Faculty of Law expansion was set in motion.

Attorney General of Ontario announces anti-SLAPP bill at Faculty of Law

Dean Mayo Moran was part of a Ministry of the Attorney General announcement today, and played an integral role in recommending a proposed bill to protect freedom of speech and public participation while preventing nuisance litigation to deliberately tie up matters in court.

In a media conference at the Faculty of Law, Attorney General John Gerretsen announced the Ontario government’s Protection of Public Participation bill.
