The IHRP is pleased to report that two of our 2011 IHRP interns will be clerking at the Supreme Court of Canada in 2013.  Louis Century, who interned for the Banda defence team at the International Criminal Court, will be clerking for the Honourable Madam Justice Deschamps.  Before law school, he interned for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Kenya.  Kate Robertson, who interned at the International Centre for Transitional Justice (ICTJ), will be clerking for the Honourable Madam Justice

Children in Burma: Dominant Burmese Narrative Fails to Capture Ongoing Rights Violations by the Burmese Government – Lane Krainyk

Lane is a third year law student at the Faculty and was an IHRP intern with the Burma Lawyer’s Council in 2011.  While interning, he assisted in drafting a shadow report which was submitted to the Committee on the Rights of the Child.

As part of its award-winning legal clinic, the International Human Rights Program (IHRP) has launched a new mentorship program that matches upper year and graduate students with leading human rights professionals. 

The IHRP mentorship program builds on the success of the Faculty’s alumni mentorship program and recognizes the tremendous value of mentoring relationships, especially in the competitive field of international human rights law.

Doctoral candidates receive prestigious Vanier Scholarships

SJD candidates Y.Y. Chen and Jacob Shelley are recipients of the notable and competitive 2012 Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships, worth $50,000 annually for up to three years.

Chen and Shelley are among a select group of 156 Vanier scholars from 29 universities, including graduate students from the United States, Europe, Asia and Africa who are studying in Canada.

Victoria University is interim space for law school during construction

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that interim space for the law school during construction of the new Jackman Law Building has been confirmed at Victoria University, across the street from the Faculty of Law.

Library collections and study space will move to the Birge-Carnegie Library during this period. And preferential access to classroom, collaborative and event spaces will be given to the Faculty of Law in several other buildings at Victoria University throughout construction time.
