Prof. Brenda Cossman awarded 2013 Ludwik and Estelle Jus Memorial Human Rights Prize

Professor Brenda Cossman has been awarded the Ludwik and Estelle Jus Memorial Human Rights Prize by the University of Toronto for her work as Professor of Law and as Director of the Mark S. Bonham Centre for Sexual Diversity Studies. 

This prize is awarded to an individual who has made a positive and lasting contribution in one or more of the areas of education and action against discrimination; supporting the University’s mission to realize an exemplary degree of equity and diversity; and extending our knowledge as a consequence of our diversity.

After a long flight from Libya that landed in in a major Toronto snowstorm, Alaa Murabit, the 23-year-old co-founder of the grassroots Voice of Libyan Women movement, gave the keynote address at the Sexual  Violence in Libya and Syria Conference held on February 8, 2013 at the Faculty of Law.

Prof. Anver Emon's Islamic studies project receives Connaught Fund award

Prof. Anver Emon recently landed a prestigious grant from the University of Toronto’s Connaught Fund.

The grant will fund the Connaught Summer Institute on Islamic Studies, August 12-22, 2013. The institute is a partnership between the Faculty of Law and Emmanuel College, and Emon is designing the program with Mark Toulouse, principal of Emmanuel College.

Prof. Anita Anand reviews research on link between better corporate governance and performance

Prof. Anita Anand was quoted in the Globe & Mail on February 13, 2013 in “A Business Case for a Better Boardroom.” The article considered academic research on the link between better corporate governance practices and financial and shareholder results.  The article refers to Anand’s important findings: “research has found connections between board composition, ownership structure and the presence of institutional investors and ‘valuation outcomes’ for a company.
