The new award will recognize the best annual submission to the Faculty of Law's student-edited Indigenous Law Journal

Métis lawyer Justin Basinger (1987-2020), a graduate of the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, is being remembered through the establishment of an annual prize designated to the academic journal he once co-edited. Family, friends and colleagues united to contribute more than $35,000 to establish the endowed award.

The Honourable David Lametti, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, announced Aug. 6, the appointment of alumna Monica Biringer (LLB 1985), a Judge of the Tax Court of Canada.

Justice Biringer was born in Toronto and educated at the University of Toronto Schools, Queen’s University, and the University of Toronto Law School. She was called to the Ontario bar in 1986.

Alumnus R. Philip Campbell (LLB 1982) appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario.

The Honourable David Lametti, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, announced Aug. 6, the appointment of alumnus R. Philip Campbell (LLB 1982), a Judge of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario.

Campbell was raised in the Atlantic Provinces. He graduated from Mount Allison University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1979 and from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law in 1982. He was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1984.
