Law students from the Class of 2017 hang out during orientation week last fall.

 

The University of Toronto Faculty of Law was once again ranked the No. 1 law school in Canada, according to the 2015 QS World University Rankings by Subject released today.

The QS rankings are considered among some of the most prominent global rankings, and uses academic and employer reputational data and research citations in its computations.

Prof. Brenda Cossman, LLB 1986, has been awarded the Ontario Bar Association’s Women Lawyers Forum’s Award of Excellence in the Promotion of Women’s Equality. This recognition honours outstanding contributions to social justice advocacy or substantive law scholarship made by feminist lawyers in advancing women’s equality rights in Canadian society.

The new edition of Rights Review is now available on the International Human Rights Program website.

The cover story story by Lara Yeo (1L) argues that, now more than ever,  international human rights law is an important framework to respond to violence against Aboriginal women and children in Canada.

The issue also covers diverse topics from the right to health, to immigration detention, to the state of international justice.

More than 200 students from 25 high schools across the GTA visited the law school March 6 for the annual See Yourself Here open house, a one-day event to demystify the law school application process and JD degree requirements, and talk about the various careers in law.

“I wasn’t aware of the process to get to law school. I learned you can study anything you want in undergrad,” said Elaine Chow, a Gr. 11 student from Unionville High School, who wants to study criminal law. “I thought all of the panels were great.”
