Mexico is one of the most dangerous countries in the world to work as a journalist, particularly those working for newspapers. Organized crime groups, particularly drug cartels, are responsible for much of the violence, and for an estimated three out of every 10 attacks against journalists. As a result, those reporting on crime and drug trafficking are particularly at risk.

It was an emotional day. “Pride, satisfaction and trepidation,” says Mike Valo, when asked what was running through his mind on June 4, 2010.  “I’m happy, tired and relieved,” added Jessica Latimer. After three years at law school, 204 graduates could finally say “We did it!”

The Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General has appointed Dean Mayo Moran to chair an advisory panel looking into drafting legislation to target Strategic Litigation Against Public Participation lawsuits. The panel includes alumni Brian M. Rogers, LLB 1977, and Peter Downard, LLB 1984, and will advise how targeted legislation could improve existing protections in the Rules of Civil Procedure.
