Reproductive health law program contributes brief to EU court's Irish abortion rights case

The Faculty of Law's International Reproductive and Sexual Health Law Programme has co-written a friend-of-the-court brief with the Center for Reproductive Rights in the case ABC v. Ireland before the European Court of Human Rights. A decision was given in the case on Dec. 16, 2010.

Workshop and public lecture draw stellar panellists to outline framework of unique project

Taking the lead to work in partnership with First Nation communities to develop and ratify an Indigenous Commercial Code, the law school hosted a successful workshop and public lecture event on Nov. 5, 2010 which brought together various stakeholders in the commercial code project.

(Nov. 17, 2010) JD student Aaron Levenstadt has won the annual James H. Bocking Memorial Award, given by the Canadian Bar Association. The Award, established by the National Competition Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association in conjunction with the Competition Bureau, recognizes the best scholarly paper on the subject of competition law or policy by a full-time student or lawyer within three years of his/her call to the bar.

Dean Mayo Moran(Nov. 18, 2010) Prof.  Mayo Moran has been re-appointed dean of the law school, effective July 1, 2011 and ending on June 30, 2016.

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to continue as dean of this outstanding law school,” says Moran. “Our Faculty is stronger than ever, and I’m very proud of what we have collectively achieved over the past four years.”

UT students sweep Insolvency Institute of Canada essay competition

University of Toronto Faculty of Law students swept the pool in the Insolvency Institute of Canada's Student Essay Competition 2010, placing first, second and third.

The competition is held annually and is open to JD students across the country. Essays must be on a restructuring-related topic. First prize is $5,000, second prize is $3,500 and third prize is $1,500. The winner is invited to the IIC's Annual Meeting where there is a formal presentation. Our three prize winners were as follows:
