Provincial Residency Requirements for UofT Domestic Tuition Fees

The following applies to JD degree students and JD non-degree students visiting on a Letter of Permission. It does not apply to inbound exchange students to UofT, or NCA students admitted to JD course enrolment.

 

JD tuition with effect from the 2022 Fall session (term)

JD tuition will continue to be billed based on the legal federal immigration status in Canada (i.e. domestic or international).

For domestic students, the University will begin to bill tuition differentially based primarily on the residency status in Ontario.

Students will be billed fees as one of:

  1. Domestic student -  Ontario Resident
  2. Domestic student -  Non-Ontario Resident
  3. International student

Eligibility for Ontario Resident tuition fee billing

As a domestic student, in order to qualify for Ontario Resident tuition fee billing you must satisfy ONE of the following scenarios:

    1. You are an Indigenous Person of Canada, e.g. First Nations (status or non-status), Inuit and Métis, regardless of location of residence

    2. You are a dependent student and your parent’s primary residence is in Ontario
       
    3. You are an independent student, your primary residence is in Ontario, and Ontario is the last province you have lived in for 12 months in a row prior to being a post-secondary student
       
    4. You are an independent student, your spouse or common-law partner’s primary residence is in Ontario, and Ontario is the last province your spouse or common-law partner has lived in for 12 months in a row

    5. You have been approved for permanent residency through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP)
       
    6. You are receiving or are eligible to receive Provincial funding from the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) in the current academic year; or you were a recipient or were eligible for OSAP funding in a past year and have not had a break in enrolment
       
    7. You are a dependent student whose parents are recently deceased and at least one of your parents was residing permanently in Ontario at the time of death

    8. You are a student in extended society care
