Summer reading list: New books by U of T Law alumni

Following a 20-year career in corporate law and legal career consulting, Natalie Jenner (LLB 1993), followed her first passion, literature, and founded independent bookstore, Archetype Books, in Oakville, Ontario. Jenner was the 1990 Gold Medalist in English Literature at St. Michael’s College, University of Toronto, where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts prior to attending U of T Law. 

Her debut novel, The Jane Austen Society (St. Martin’s Press, North America) has been listed as a USA Today, LA Times, Globe and Mail (#1), Toronto Star (#1), Vancouver Sun (#1), Publishers Weekly and Indie bestseller. Jenner's book has also been sold to eleven foreign territories and will be translated into nine languages.

The novel is a fictional retelling of the Jane Austen Society’s founding in 1940s Chawton, England, where Austen once lived.  

Alumnus Tyler Wentzell (JD 2014), who will join the Faculty of Law as a doctoral student (SJD) this September, recently published his first book, Not for King or Country: Edward Cecil-Smith, the Communist Party of Canada, and the Spanish Civil War (University of Toronto Press).  

The non-fiction biography tells the story of Edward Cecil-Smith, commander of the Canadians that fought in the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) and recounts political and legal tribulations in Toronto during the Great Depression.
