JD student Lwam Ghebrehariat will be playing a lead character in the the play Homegrown, which is being performed in early August as part of the Summerworks theatre festival.

The play, written by lawyer Catherine Frid, is about a Toronto lawyer/writer who meets a prisoner accused of being one of the Toronto 18 ‘homegrown terrorists’ in 2008. She continues to visit him over the next year and a half, and becomes obsessed with separating fact from hype in the face of the uncertainty, delays and secrecy in his case. Ghebrehariat plays Shareef Abdelhaleem, the prisoner. The play is based on a true story.

Homegrown will be performed at Theatre Passe Muraille Aug. 5-14. See the summerworks website for more information.
