More than $2.5 million has been raised to support a chair and JD/MBA student financial awards at the University of Toronto in honour of the late Geoff Taber, who tragically perished with his wife, Jacquie and two teenaged sons, in a fire on December 24, 2016.

One alumnus of U of T Law has handed over the reins to another as treasurer of the Law Society of Ontario. The treasurer is the top elected official of the Law Society, which regulates Ontario’s lawyers and paralegals in the public interest.

Paul Schabas '84 wrapped up his two-year term as Treasurer on June 28, 2018. In a farewell article in the Law Society of Ontario Gazette, he reviewed the accomplishments and challenges of those years. He concludes:

More than 200 remarkable Faculty of Law graduates have now joined an outstanding global alumni group, as the Class of 2018 celebrated Convocation Day on June 8th. A warm sunny day greeted the newly minted alumni, who were gathered together with their family and friends, faculty and staff in Convocation Hall on King’s College Circle, and later at the Faculty of Law.
