U of T Law is pleased to welcome legal scholar Galit A. Sarfaty, who joins the Faculty, effective August 1, 2023.

Associate Professor Galit A. Sarfaty 

Professor Sarfaty holds a JD from Yale Law School, an MA and PhD in Anthropology from the University of Chicago and an AB summa cum laude from Harvard University. She was previously an Associate Professor at the Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia, where she held the Canada Research Chair in Global Economic Governance. Professor Sarfaty previously served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Legal Studies and Business Ethics at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

As a legal scholar and anthropologist, Professor Sarfaty analyzes the ways in which law and legal institutions operate in practice, including the transnational regulation of corporate human rights compliance in global supply chains, the role of corporate actors in international lawmaking, the culture of international organizations, and the use of quantitative regulatory tools in global economic governance and human rights. Her research has been published in a book entitled Values in Translation: Human Rights and the Culture of the World Bank (Stanford University Press), as well as several leading law journals including the American Journal of International Law, Harvard International Law Journal, Law & Social Inquiry, and Stanford Journal of International Law.
