The Walsh Family Law Moot and Negotiation Competition is named to recognize the late Supreme Court of Canada Justice George Tucker Walsh and his contributions to the growth and development of family law.

The students argued a Supreme Court appeal about children’s consent to therapy in high-conflict families.

Second-year law students Ryan Chan and Hanna Yakymova and third-year students Lauren Wildgoose and Rory Smith placed first overall out of six teams. Smith also received the award for top oralist.

The team was coached by adjunct moot advisors Martha McCarthy, Deborah Perkins-Leitman and Sarah Young from Martha McCarthy & Company LLP, along with student coaches and former mooters Emily Fraser and Elysia Martini.
