Named in memory of one of Canada’s greatest legal scholars and jurists, the late Chief Justice Bora Laskin – former instructor and faculty secretary for the University of Toronto’s then school of law – the Laskin Moot is an annual bilingual moot court competition in Canadian administrative and constitutional law.

U of T law student Hannah Goddard-Rebstein won best oralist of the moot, which dealt with the regulation of testosterone levels for female athletes participating in the 2020 Olympic Games.

The U of T law team including Ryan Dorsman-Zehr, Katelyn Johnstone and Lauren Scott – who mooted in French – finished second out of the eighteen law schools represented. Goddard-Rebstein and Scott also took home fourth best pair at the competition after an exciting final round before a panel of judges chaired by Supreme Court Justice Suzanne Côté.

The team was coached by third-year law students Maura McDowell, Jason Lamb, and Ryan Marinacci and benefited from the guidance and coaching from the Ministry of the Attorney General’s office lawyers, William MacLarkey, adjunct moot adviser and U of T law alumnus Padriac Ryan.
