Faculty of Law alumnus Allan Barsky (JD 1984), MSW, PhD, is a professor of Social Work at Florida Atlantic University. Professor Barsky teaches courses on social work practice, professional ethics, addictions, pedagogy, and conflict resolution. He also conducts professional continuing education courses for social workers and other mental health professionals.

The author of several books and numerous book chapters, Professor Barsky has most recently published, Essential Ethics for Social Work Practice (Oxford University Press 2022). The book provides: 

  • A practical six-stage framework for identifying, analyzing, and managing ethical issues, including ethical breaches, ethical dilemmas, and situations of moral distress; 
  • The first social work textbook to provide a foundation of essential values and ethics designed specifically for generalist social work students and practitioners.

Oxford University Press cites the book is "written by an internationally recognized scholar on social work values and ethics who has chaired the National Association of Social Work National Ethics Committee" and Professor Barsky "provides instructors with excellent ancillaries, including a test bank, sample syllabus, PowerPoint presentations for each chapter, and suggestions for teaching and learning".
