Trudo Lemmens named 2024 Hastings Center Fellow

Professor Trudo Lemmens of the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law has been named a Fellow of the Hastings Center in recognition of his scholarly impact.

The Hastings Center, a nonpartisan U.S.-based bioethics research institution founded in 1969, addresses social and ethical issues in health care, science, and technology.

Lemmens, a professor of law and bioethics, holds the Scholl Chair in Health Law and Policy. He is cross-appointed to U of T’s Dalla Lana School of Public Health, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, and the Joint Centre for Bioethics. His research focuses on the interaction between law, governance mechanisms, and ethical norms and values in health care, including biomedical research, health product development, and knowledge dissemination. His more recent work deals with issues related to human rights, disability rights, and health.

“Trudo Lemmens is a leading scholar of health law and policy,” said University Professor Jutta Brunnée, Dean of Law and James Marshall Tory Dean’s Chair. “His contributions to the public discourse on bioethics have been immense. It is wonderful that the Hastings Center has recognized his work by selecting him to join the ranks of their Fellows.”

The Hastings Center Fellows comprise more than 200 individuals of outstanding accomplishment, representing a range of disciplines from around the world.
