Congratulations to this year’s competitive mooters who have, once again, enjoyed remarkable success and made the Faculty of Law proud. Some notable accomplishments include the following:
Cassels Brock Cup (“Baby Gale”)
We are pleased to report that the top school was the University of Toronto – with a clean sweep!
In the category of oralist: Lauren Epstein won first-place, Lwam Ghebrehariat won second-place, and David Forsayeth won third-place.
The top appellant team was Lauren Epstein and Arden Beddoes, and the top respondent team was Patric Senson and David Forsayeth.
Thanks and congratulations are owed to Kristen Pollock, Kim Potter, Tim Barrett, Jon Laxer, and Joe Heller for their wisdom and dedication as coaches.
Fasken Martineau First Year International Law Moot (“Baby Jessup”)
We are pleased to report that the University of Toronto came in first overall, winning the moot!
Adam Tanel and Dan Saposnik were recognized as among the top five distinguished oralists, while Chris Yung received an honourable mention as an oralist.

Wilson Moot (Equality Rights)
This year’s Wilson team consisted of Kimberley Potter, Karen Ensslen, Kristina Gill, and Daniel Stern. The student coaches were Nick Shkordoff, Jane Stewart, and Paul-Erik Veel, and the Faculty coach was Professor Moreau.
The team placed 1st overall, and Kimberley Potter was awarded top Oralist.
Canadian Labour Arbitration Moot
Canadian Labour Arbitration Moot team won the Cup at the final competition. The team consisted of Inie Park and Laura Johnson, and was coached by Sumrana Taher (student), and Laura Trachuk (adjunct faculty).
Laskin Moot (Administrative/Constitutional Law)
This year’s Laskin team consisted of Chris Somerville, Aaron Kreaden, Sarah Crowder, and Laura Wagner. The student coach as Andrea Cole, and the faculty coaches were Professors Lee and Macklin.
The team was awarded second place for their factum, and Chris Somerville and Aaron Kreaden were awarded best mooting pair.
Gale Moot (Criminal/Constitutional Law)
This year’s Gale team consisted of Jon Laxer, Tim Barrett, Kristen Pollock, and Joe Heller. The student coaches were Mark Graham, Mabel Lai, and Michael Collins, and the faculty coach was Professor Shaffer.
The team received an award for top facutm, and placed fourth overall.
Jessup Moot (International Law)
This year’s Jessup team consisted of Ashley Cochran, Heather Cochran, Amara Gossin, and Max Shapiro. The student coaches, Kiran Patel, Mike Rosenberg, Jelena Madunic and Peter Senkpiel, deserve special thanks, along with Faculty Coaches Professors Bhuta and Morgan.
This year’s team was successful in making it to the final rounds of the national competition, and mooted before the Honourable Mr. Justice Binnie in Calgary. The team took first place for the their written materials, and Max Shapiro placed 6th amongst all the oralists.
Canadian Corporate and Securities Law Moot
This year’s team consisted of Eric Wagner, Emily Fan, Matt Law and Jeremy Opolsky. The student coaches, Stephanie Couzin, Kathryn Esaw, Vinay Sarin and Ian Caines, deserve special thanks, along with Faculty Coaches Professors Anand and Iacobucci.
Matt Law received an award for first place oralist, while Eric Wagner was awarded second place oralist.
