JD student Judith Rae has written a commentary published on the Globe and Mail website demonstrating the practical, legal, and ethical problems with child "rescue" and adoption in situations of mass emergency ("Child 'rescue' in mass emergencies: illegal, unrealistic and unethical," November 21, 2007).

In the summer of 2007, Rae worked for the UNHCR in Sudan on the subject of separated and unaccompanied children.
