First year law students and members of the Indigenous Law Students' Association Zachary Biech and Natalie Marsh prepare to commit to their Reconciliation Resolutions.
First year law students and members of the Indigenous Law Students' Association Zachary Biech and Natalie Marsh prepare to commit to their Reconciliation Resolutions.

In January 2017 the Indigenous Initiatives Office challenged every student, faculty and staff member in the Faculty of Law to make a reconciliation resolution. That means committing to do at least three things that will help our country move towards a better relationship with Indigenous people. The Indigenous Initiatives Office has organized a speaker series to help people keep their reconciliation resolutions - and they are open to alumni and anyone else who wants to take up the challenge.

  • Métis: Past, Present and Future: On Tuesday, January 31, 12:30-2 p.m. Métis Nation of Ontario President Margaret Froh will discuss recent cases and policy developments concerning the Métis in Ontario and across the country.

  • History and Legacy of Residential Schools: NEW DATE: Tuesday, February 7, 12:30-2 pm  Phil Fontaine, former National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, will talk about the history and legacy of residential schools.

  •  Children’s Lawyer for Ontario: On Thursday, February 16, from 12:30 – 2 p.m. Marian Jacko, recently appointed the new Children’s Lawyer for Ontario, will discuss the work of her office and specifically what she is doing to ameliorate conditions for Indigenous children and youth across the province.
