Prof. Yasmin Dawood is a co-author, along with Monique Deveaux, Melissa Williams, Maxwell Cameron, Patti Lenard, and Genevieve Fuji Johnson, of an open letter to the Government of Canada regarding the proposed Fair Elections Act. The letter notes several serious concerns about the proposed provisions in the Act.

The letter is co-signed by over 150 professors at Canadian universities who study the principles and institutions of constitutional democracy, including University of Toronto Faculty of Law professors Audrey Macklin, Jennifer Nedelsky, Kent Roach, David Schneiderman, and Lorraine Weinrib.

Read the letter on the National Post website ("Don’t undermine Elections Canada," March 11, 2014).

The letter can also be read in French on the Le Devoir website ("Une loi électorale nocive pour nos institutions," March 11, 2014).

Prof. Dawood has organized a public forum about the Fair Elections Act on March 21.

Prof. Dawood has been interviewed by Evan Solomon on CBC Television's Power & Politics and by Redeye radio (Vancouver) about this open letter, as well as quoted on CBC News and elsewhere in stories about the Fair Elections Act.
