Professor Gillian Hadfield

Professor Gillian Hadfield has been named among the Fastcase 50, a global recognition recognizing “law’s smartest, most courageous innovators, techies, visionaries, & leaders.”  Fastcase is a US-based legal research company, and launched this honour in 2011.

She is widely considered a global authority on the intersection of law and technology, and is a fellow at the Vector Institute. Hadfield, who is also cross-appointed as a professor of management at the Rotman School, is the author of Rules for a Flat World: Why Humans Invented Law and How to Reinvent it for a Complex Global Economy (Oxford University Press, 2017).

Her scholarship focuses on innovative design for legal and dispute resolution systems in advanced and developing market economies; governance for artificial intelligence (AI); the markets for law, lawyers, and dispute resolution; and contract law and theory. At the Faculty of Law, she teaches Contracts; Problems in Legal Design; Legal Design Lab, and Responsible AI.
