Portrait of Audrey Macklin

The University of Toronto Alumni Association’s 2019 Awards of Excellence have been announced, and among them, Professor Audrey Macklin, LLB 1987, Chair in Human Rights Law, has received the Ludwik and Estelle Jus Memorial Human Rights Prize.

The prize recognizes Macklin’s consistent and decades-long efforts to champion the legal rights of people on the margins, especially migrants and refugees, most notably her work on behalf of Omar Khadr, among many significant and important cases. This award honours her advocacy and her ground breaking research.

This recognition program honours “people at the apex of U of T’s culture of excellence” who are improving services and culture for students, faculty, staff and alumni. They are presented annually and honour those who have achieved much and inspired many, and in doing so, have contributed to U of T’s “stellar global reputation for research, teaching and innovation.”

The University’s Awards of Excellence Ceremony takes place Thursday April 18.
