Prof. Ayelet Shachar’s influential book, The Birthright Lottery: Citizenship and Global Inequality, published by Harvard University Press, is the subject of a special symposium titled "Denaturalizing Citizenship" in the journal Issues in Legal Scholarship (2011: Volume 9, Issue 1).

The symposium features a collection of ten essays written by leading theorists in the fields of citizenship and immigration law and policy, including Saskia Sassen, Rogers Smith, Rainer Baubock, Mark Tushnet, Susan Bibler Coutin, Muneer Ahmad among others. It concludes with a comprehensive response by Professor Shachar.
