Alumnus David E. Spiro, LLB 1987, has been appointed a judge of the Tax Court of Canada. Justice Spiro replaces Justice B. Paris, who elected to resign effective April 3, 2019.

University Professor Michael Trebilcock and SJD candidate Kanksha Mahadevia Ghimire authored a report on alternative medicines and called for risk-based regulation on certain popular forms of alternative medicine, especially when their use could be life-threatening to patients.

Alumnus Paul Schabas at the Law Society of Ontario

Alumnus and former treasurer of the Law Society of Ontario, Paul Schabas, has been elected a judge of the Superior Court of Ontario, and a judge ex officio of the Court of Appeal for Ontario. The partner at Blake, Cassels and Graydon LLP received his LLB in 1994 from the Faculty of Law, after studying music and history as an undergraduate, and performing as a professional French horn player. He is an adjunct professor of media law at the University of Toronto, and is a regularly commentator on media and constitutional issues.
