First Year Law Student Wins Arthur C. Helton Fellowship

On March 24, 2007, first-year law student Ilana Bleichert was awarded a prestigious Arthur C. Helton Fellowship from the American Society for International Law. The Arthur C. Helton Fellowship is granted to law students and young professionals for the pursuit of fieldwork and research on significant issues involving international law, human rights, humanitarian affairs, and related areas. Ilana was one of ten recipients from over 40 applicants around the world.

Darryl Robinson, Adjunct Professor and Acting Director of the International Human Rights Clinic, was interviewed on CBC Newsworld on June 3, 2007 about the Charles Taylor trial.  Charles Taylor, former President of Liberia, faces trial at the International Court of Justice in the Hague for directing rebel groups that carried out war crimes and crimes against humanity in Sierra Leone. 

Law School Anti-Trafficking Working Group Wins Sevey-Rattan Freedom Award

The Anti-Trafficking Working Group, part of the law school's International Human Rights Program, has won the Future Group's Sevey-Rattan Freedom Award.  Spearheaded by third-year law student Yvanna Mycyk , the group was recognized for its contributions in countering human trafficking last year. Human Rights Photo Exhibit featured in local newspaper

Local newspaper The Annex Gleaner has published a story describing the International Human Rights Program's Human Rights in Focus. This exhibit showcases international photographs taken by past and present U of T Faculty of Law students during their human rights internships around the world. The photos portrays people and landscapes in developing countries including Zambia, Uganda, Nepal and Chile. The exhibit runs to March 22, 2007.
