Last week, the Faculty of Law welcomed its first-year cohort of 215 JD students.

U of T Law has conducted a self-reporting diversity survey since 2015. It has helped the faculty inform its services and programs, including the launch of the Black Future Lawyers in early 2020.

This year, 2,779 prospective students applied for fall 2021 JD admission, up over 500 applications from 2020 (2,204 applicants).

Increasingly, women make up the class at 59%, up 5% from 2020.

Of the new JD students, 83% are the first in their family to attend law school, with nearly 30% born outside of Canada, and 59% of students' parents/guardians also born outside of Canada. In addition, 11% (up from 8% in 2020) are among the first in their family to attend University or College.
