Prof. Anver Emon is the recipient of the 2017 Kitty Newman Memorial Award which recognizes an outstanding emerging Canadian scholar in the field of philosophy. This award is selected by a committee of disciplinary peers who are Fellows of the Royal Society of Canada.

A leading, and internationally renowned scholar of Islamic law, Emon has contributed significantly to the understanding of the relation between Islamic law and other legal traditions, including trailblazing studies of its relation to natural law theories, human rights law and religious pluralism.

He holds the Canada Research Chair in Religion, Pluralism and the Rule of Law and was recently inducted into the Royal Society of Canada’s College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists.
