The Honourable Arif Virani (LLB 1998), Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, announced on November 6, 2023, the judicial appointment of Faculty of Law graduate Jonathan Dawe (LLB 1984) to the Court of Appeal for Ontario.

Justice Dawe holds a BSc from McGill University (1987). He graduated as a Bronze Medalist from U of T Law in 1994 and clerked at the Supreme Court of Canada before receiving his LLM from Yale Law School in 1996. He was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1997. Justice Dawe spent many years as an adjunct professor at the Faculty of Law, teaching courses on criminal procedure and the Charter.

“I wish Justices Dawe every success as they take on their new roles. I am confident they will serve Ontarians well as members of the Court of Appeal for Ontario," said the Hon. Arif Virani, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada.
