Noah Novogrodsky, director of the U of T law school's International Human Rights Program (IHRP), says the Canadian federal government should strike down the State Immunity Act that shields foreign governments from being sued by Canadian torture victims or their families in a commentary in the National Post (October 13, 004).

A public panel discussion featuring torture victims or their surviving family members, Bill Sampson, Ken Wiwa, Stephan Hachemi and Houshang Bourzari, spoke at the U of T Faculty of Law on October 1 to a packed audience. They demand the federal government change the State law so they can sue their torturers in Canadian courts.
