Founded at the University of Toronto in 1996, Pro Bono Students Canada (PBSC) is a national pro bono organization with chapters at 22 law schools across Canada. U of T’s PBSC chapter annually places over 120 volunteer U of T law students with public interest organizations, legal clinics, tribunals, courts and lawyers taking on pro bono projects.

Named after The Right Honourable Richard Wagner, P.C., Chief Justice of Canada, PBSC’s Chief Justice Richard Wagner Awards recognize an extraordinary leader from each of the organization’s participating law school chapters, while elevating the need for more engagement in the access to justice crisis.

Crystal Hyunju Park, a master’s student in the Faculty of Law’s Global Professional LLM (GPLLM) was recognized for her incredible service to others through her PBSC volunteerism with the Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA).

PBSC national law firm partner, McCarthy Tétrault LLP hosted the event and sponsored the awards across Canada this year.
