The Government of Ontario announced on May 1, the Hon. Mm. Justice Sharon M. Nicklas (LLB 1992) as the Chief Justice of the Ontario Court of Justice.  

After completing her law degree at U of T Law in 1992, former Associate Chief Justice Nicklas was admitted to the bar in 1994. Thereafter, from 1994 to 2003, she served as an Assistant Crown Attorney in Hamilton, Brantford, and Waterloo Regions. In 2003, she started out as the Deputy Crown Attorney in Waterloo Region, and just before she was appointed in 2007, she served as the Acting Crown Attorney in the same region. 

In 2007, Justice Nicklas was appointed to the position of judge of the Ontario Court of Justice in Kitchener, where she oversaw criminal and family law cases. She served as the Central West Region's Senior Judge from 2013 to 2019 and was named Coordinator of Justice of the Peace and Associate Chief Justice in 2019.
