Alumnus Paul Schabas at the Law Society of Ontario

Alumnus and former treasurer of the Law Society of Ontario, Paul Schabas, has been elected a judge of the Superior Court of Ontario, and a judge ex officio of the Court of Appeal for Ontario. The partner at Blake, Cassels and Graydon LLP received his LLB in 1994 from the Faculty of Law, after studying music and history as an undergraduate, and performing as a professional French horn player. He is an adjunct professor of media law at the University of Toronto, and is a regularly commentator on media and constitutional issues.

From 2016-2018, Schabas championed diversity and inclusion as the LSO treasurer, as well as access to justice and reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples. He was first elected a bencher in 2007 and chaired numerous committees. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. He has twice been selected one of Canadian Lawyer’s Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers.
