Alumnus James D. G. Douglas

Alumnus James D. G. Douglas, LLB 1979, is a recipient of the Ontario Bar Association’s President’s Award, given in recognition of lawyers or organizations who have made significant contributions advancing gender equality in the legal profession.  A partner at BLG, Douglas shares this award with the Hon. Justice Patricia Hennessy, of the Superior Court of Justice.

In addition, alumni H. Michael Rosenberg, JD 2009, of McCarthy Tetrault, is Heather McArthur Memorial Young Lawyers Award recipient, and Albert H. Oosterhoff, LLM 1970, Whaley Estate Litigation Partners, receives the Award for Distinguished Service. They will be recognized at an OBA gala on April 17, 2019.

“When it comes to supporting women to enable them to excel in their legal practices, Mr. Douglas is a genuine leader, who consistently demonstrates the importance of providing truly equal opportunities for men and women,” said Lynne Vicars, OBA president, in a release: 

Previous winners include the Canadian Cross-Border Legal Coalition (2018), The Hon. Warren K. Winkler (2013) and the Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund (2011). Approximately 40 percent of OBA members are women and 54 percent of the OBA’s Section Executives are women

The OBA was established in 1907 and is the largest voluntary legal association in Ontario representing more than 16,000 lawyers, judges, law professors and law students.
