ALSA Fall Feast

On October 19, 2011, the Aboriginal Law Students’ Association (ALSA) hosted their annual Fall Feast in the Rowell Room at the Faculty of Law. This yearly event exposes students, staff and faculty to Aboriginal culture and the spirit of thanksgiving.

ALSA students prepared and served a variety of traditional and non-traditional foods, including bannock, bison meatballs, salad and tourtiere. Entertainment this year was provided by the Morning Butterfly Singers, a performance group of youth from Toronto’s Native Women’s Resource Centre. The singers performed a variety of traditional songs accompanied by their hand drums.

Undergraduate students from the University of Toronto also attended this event as a meet-and-greet with the various law students volunteering for the newly-formed Aboriginal Student Mentor Program.

All in all, this years’ feast was a great success; it was attended by many people who left the event with a greater understanding of the significance of Aboriginal culture here at the Faculty of Law.
