Mary Owusu works for the not-for-profit organization, Law In Action Within Schools (LAWS). LAWS is a joint partnership between the Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto and Osgoode Hall Law School at York University. LAWS provides inner-city and newcomer youth with a positive and engaging exposure to legal issues, the justice system and the legal profession and  uses legal education as a tool to support youth to graduate high school and access post secondary.
Mary graduated with a J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School where she was involved with LAWS as both a program volunteer and summer student,  participated in the Poverty Law Intensive at Parkdale Community Legal Services and served as the co-president of the Black Law Student's Association. Mary articled with Rexdale Community Legal Clinic and has an extensive background in community and access to justice initiatives. She has also worked internationally with community-based organizations such as the Female Lawyers Association Gambia (FLAG), Foundation for Human Rights Initiative Uganda (FHRI) and the Pan-African Defenders Network. Mary has a strong passion for increasing diversity within the legal profession and community development.
