Dr. Michael Veale is Associate Professor and Vice Dean (Education Innovation) at the Faculty of Laws, University College London and Fellow at the Institute for Information Law, Amsterdam Law School. He holds a PhD in the governance of machine learning from the UCL Faculty of Engineering. His research focusses on how to understand and address challenges of power and justice that digital technologies and their users create and exacerbate. Veale’s work has been cited by hundreds of policy organisations, courts and legislators across over twenty jurisdictions, and he has advised and written reports for many organisations including the European Commission, Commonwealth Secretariat, Royal Society, and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. He sits on the technology advisory panel of the Information Commissioner’s Office.
