Nicholas Woodward is an Associate Lawyer with Battista Smith Migration Law Group. Passionate about social justice, his practice focuses on helping vulnerable persons, including members of the LGBTQ+ community and those living with HIV, navigate the complexities of Canada’s immigration and refugee systems. Nicholas joined Battista Smith in 2019 following a clerkship at the Federal Court where he worked with the Honourable Justice Elizabeth Walker.

Fluently bilingual in English and French, Nicholas holds both a law degree (Juris Doctor), and an Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Ottawa. During law school, Nicholas worked with the University of Ottawa’s Refugee Sponsorship Support Program and Capital Rainbow Refuge, a community organization focused on sponsoring and resettling LGBTQ+ refugees in the National Capital Region. After law school, Nicholas worked at a national union-side labour law firm, where he gained valuable legal experience advocating for workers’ rights.

Nicholas works on a wide range of immigration and refugee files, including refugee claims, applications for judicial review at the Federal Court, applications for permanent residence based on humanitarian and compassionate grounds, and pre-removal risk assessments.
