Michael J. Sims (B.A.H. (Queen’s), M.Phil. (Cantab.), LL.B. and B.C.L. (McGill)) is Senior Counsel with the Ministry of the Attorney General in the Crown Law Office - Civil, where his practice focuses on complex civil and administrative litigation on behalf of Ontario. Immediately prior to joining MAG, he was litigation counsel with the City of Toronto, where his work focused on policing, regulatory negligence, human rights and administrative law matters. He has also served as counsel to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada and spent seven years as a litigator for the Department of Justice, where he represented the federal Crown in policing, corrections and national security matters. He began his career in private practice at a boutique litigation firm in Toronto. Mr. Sims has taught a course on judicial review in the Federal and Divisional Courts as a visiting professor at the University of Ottawa. Mr. Sims has appeared at all levels of court in Canada. He was called to the Ontario bar in 2006.
