Mark C. Halfyard, B.A. (Carleton) 2001, LL.B. (Ottawa) 2004, is the senior appellate counsel and partner at Daniel Brown Law LLP, where he practices criminal and constitutional law. He is a certified specialist in criminal litigation by the Law Society of Ontario. Mark is the co-author of Criminal Appeals: A Practitioner’s Handbook (Emond Publishing; 2017) and a sessional lecturer at Osgoode Hall Law School (Canadian Common Law LL.M. program). He is a Toronto Director for the Criminal Lawyers’ Association (CLA), where he is a member of the interventions committee, which oversees CLA interventions to the Supreme Court of Canada. Mark is the Secretary/Treasurer for the Pro Bono Inmate Appeal Program, which assists unrepresented litigants before the Court of Appeal for Ontario. Mark has been counsel in over 350 appeals to various appellate bodies—the Superior Court of Justice, Court of Appeal for Ontario, the Federal Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.
