Kes Posgate is an Associate Lawyer with Battista Smith Migration Law Group. Kes holds a Juris Doctor from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology & Equity Studies from the University of Toronto. Prior to joining Battista Smith, Kes worked as a law clerk for the Honourable Justice Ahmed of the Federal Court.

Kes has experience working on a wide range of immigration and refugee matters, having appeared before all divisions of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada and the Federal Court.

Prior to moving to Toronto, Kes worked and volunteered with legal service providers and organizations in Vancouver, including First United Legal Advocacy, Pivot Legal Society, Law Students for Decriminalization and Harm Reduction, and the Law Students’ Legal Advice Program clinics at the Carnegie Centre and PACE Society. Through these experiences, Kes represented individuals in a diversity of legal matters, including immigration, residential tenancy, employment standards, income assistance, human rights, and more. For this work, Kes received several awards, including a Law Foundation of British Columbia Public Interest Award in 2020.

Kes is a member of the Refugee Lawyers Association of Ontario, the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers, and the Canadian Bar Association.
