Justin Manoryk is a media lawyer and litigator at Torstar, where he serves as Legal Director, Media & Litigation. In this role he provides legal advice, training and representation to the journalists and editors of the Toronto Star, Hamilton Spectator, and Torstar’s other publications in the areas of defamation, privacy, copyright, court openness, freedom of expression and access to information. He provides guidance at the investigative and pre-publication stages, and handles post-publication legal issues as they arise. Justin also provides general legal guidance to the Torstar businesses, including on labour and employment, commercial, and general litigation matters.

Justin graduated from the Peter A. Allard School of Law at University of British Columbia and practiced civil litigation at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP for several years prior to joining Torstar. During his time in private practice, he appeared before all levels of court in Ontario, the Federal Court, and the Saskatchewan Court of King’s Bench. Justin was also proud to help administer the annual Wilson Moot, which addresses issues of equity and Charter rights.
