The GPLLM hosts a series of monthly workshops led by our world renowned legal educators at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law.

The Legal Lens: A Focus on Law, Business and Technology is a series of online sessions offering insights into prominent business and legal issues affecting organizations across all industries. The next workshop in our series is Privacy's AI Problem.

Join us on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at 12:00PM EST for an interactive session led by Abdi Aidid, J.D., LL.M, a Vice-President of Legal and Research at Blue J, an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto - Faculty of Law and a distinguished scholar in the areas of civil procedure, torts and law & technology.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has challenged so many areas of law, but perhaps none as squarely as privacy. Even despite this, governments have chosen to regulate AI chiefly through the privacy law and its institutions. This workshop discusses the unique challenges that AI poses for privacy, the new rules being contemplated to confront these issues and strategies for mitigating privacy risk when using AI-enabled tools. This session will also include an overview of Canada's proposed privacy law overhaul and the privacy-related provisions of the forthcoming AI and Data Act.
