Gorick Ng

What separates those who make a positive first impression, build strong relationships, and make an impact in their early legal careers from the rest? The ability to decode and navigate the unspoken rules – rules that no law school class will teach. In this session, Gorick Ng, Wall Street Journal bestselling author of The Unspoken Rules: Secrets to Starting Your Career Off Right, demystifies the unspoken rules of professional success. He will share:

  • What your partners or supervisors expect of you but will never tell you
  • How to build your professional network of mentors and sponsors
  • The habits that will help you stand out and accelerate your career

Ng, a first-generation college student, is the author of The Unspoken Rules, a Harvard Business Review book on what over 500 professionals, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, wish someone could have told them sooner about how to navigate their careers and ascend to positions of leadership.

Ng has been featured on The Today Show, in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, BuzzFeed, New York Post, Fast Company, and CNBC. He was named by Thinkers50 as one of 30 thinkers to watch in 2022. He is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Business School.

This session is open to all current law students and U of T Law alumni of the classes of 2022, 2021 and 2020.
