Building Justice book cover

Please join the Honourable Frank Iacobucci, Faculty of Law Dean Jutta Brunnée and U of T Law alumna Shauna Van Praagh (LLB 1989), a professor at McGill University's Faculty of Law, for a reading and discussion of her newly published book: Building Justice: Frank Iacobucci and the Life Cycles of Law (UTP, 2022).

Building Justice: Frank Iacobucci and the Life Cycles of Law draws on the contributions from Canadian Supreme Court Justice and Dean Emeritus Frank Iacobucci to provide critical insight into the study of law and the contours of engaged citizenship through law.

Van Praagh weaves together the voices of individuals whose paths and projects have intersected with those of Iacobucci. The book provides a compelling consideration of the study and practice of law as it follows the stages of Iacobucci’s life and career: from his childhood in Vancouver, his practice as a young lawyer, his time at the University of Toronto and with the Federal Department of Justice, his work as a judge at the highest level of court and his significant engagement with Canada’s indigenous community. This includes advising Indigenous groups and businesses on critical legal and policy matters – including matters involving reconciliation – addressing Indigenous rights, and most famously, his 2013 ground-breaking independent review, First Nations Representation on Ontario Juries.

This event includes a book reading, discussion and book signing. Building Justice: Frank Iacobucci and the Life Cycles of Law, will also be available for purchase on site.
