This course is a broad introduction to the law, theory, and practice of international human rights. It will explore the historical development and foundations of international human rights; the major international and regional human rights instruments and institutions; the legal and political mechanisms and strategies for implementation and enforcement; and selected topics including the right to life and freedom from torture, equality and non-discrimination, labour rights, indigenous rights, international humanitarian law, international refugee law, business and human rights, technology and human rights; the relationship between human rights instruments and global inequality; and the human rights implications of climate change.
