A test of ethics: One former prosecutor’s story of resignation from Guantanamo

Lt. Col Darrel Vandeveld

February 26th, 2009

12:30-2:00pm

FLB, 78 Queen’s Park

A light lunch will be served.

Lt. Col. Darrel Vandeveld is an American lawyer and officer in the US Army reserve.  He served as a military prosecutor at Guantanamo Bay before resigning last fall over ethical issues in the controversial case of Mohammed Jawad, a young Afghan prisoner accused of throwing a grenade that injured two American soldiers.

Join us for an informal talk with Lt. Col. Vandeveld about his decision to resign, and the ethical precipice faced by lawyers before the internationally condemned, and now defunct, military commissions.
