Canadians spend a lot of money (public and private) on health care and much of that is spent on drugs — some $23.4 billion in 2008. Provincial insurance plans are desperately trying to cope, looking to initiatives like the recently passed Ontario law that caps prices of generic drugs at 25 per cent of the brand name equivalent.

On March 9, 2011, the Centre for the Legal Profession (CLP) launched a new initiative, the Program on Professionalism. This program will invite leading members of the profession – drawn from the judiciary, diverse areas of practice and the academy – to come to the Centre and the Faculty of Law, to examine current ethical and professional issues.

Our inaugural speaker was the Honourable Mr. Justice Stephen Goudge, who spoke on the topic of “What does it mean to be a legal professional?”

“Canada 2020: The Future of Public Interest Law” was the 2011 theme for the annual Student Public Interest Network Legal Action Workshop (SPINLAW), held March 12, 2011 at the Faculty of Law.

Organized by students from the University of Toronto and Osgoode Hall law schools, SPINLAW creates a forum for students, local activists and community members to share their experiences and perspectives on current social justice issues.

More than 120 aspiring law students packed the Moot Court room at the law school on March 4, 2011 as part of the annual “See Yourself Here” Open House, a day organized to help demystify the JD admission process.
